Many of the residents of this community who come to Casa ALBA are relatively new to the community. Many seek assistance with immigration concerns, laws and regulations that may differ from those of the countries from which they came. Often medical procedures and resources are also unfamiliar. Because they want to be responsible, contributing members of the community, they want to better understand our systems and life style. We provide for immigration attorney consultations, consultations by local attorneys, and guidance with medical concerns such as insurance, hospital bills, and preventive care.

Each week an immigration attorney from the Sesini Law Group (Milwaukee) is present to offer free initial consultation on a variety of immigration concerns.
Twice a month a county attorney is present for consultation on traffic court matters. Also, once a month several city attorneys are available to assist persons with civil, criminal, and family issues. |
2. To offer assistance to youth who qualify for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.
A volunteer DACA specialist, trained by immigration attorneys, assists eligible youth with the preparation of all documentation to be submitted for the DACA process which provides the individual with a two-year work permit, the opportunity to apply for a driver’s license, and often a better opportunity to apply for college.

3. To offer guidance and advice in matters of medical concerns.
A Brown County nurse is present every Thursday to take blood pressure readings, offer health tips, and help people understand medications and preventative practices.
A team of health care professionals is exploring the formation of support and information groups for persons with chronic illnesses. A licensed medical insurance consultant volunteers her time to help people find medical coverage, understand how to apply for Medicare, the payment of hospital bills, etc. |
Many local Hispanic families are afraid, even terrified, that their families may be torn apart by being deported. To help alleviate the anxiety, local attorneys and judges have prepared a “Power of Attorney – Delegating Parental Authority” form. The document provides instructions to the court system one how a minor US Citizen should be cared for, should a family member be deported. In addition, we are encouraging all minor US citizens, with an undocumented parent, to apply for a US passport. Minor children will need a passport to be able to reunite with family members should they be deported. Casa ALBA Melanie now has in excess of 35 volunteers trained in assisting Hispanic families through the paperwork.
