Among the many needs being addressed, education is one of growing importance within the Hispanic community. Not only the continued encouragement of Hispanic youth to go on to higher education, but also the opportunities for adults to complete basic studies has been, and continues to be, an important focus.
We provide adult programming in Spanish GED, pre-GED for adults. We will also initiate outreach to parents of middle school and high school youth to encourage their children to graduate from high school and plan to go to college. The Parent Program is a new venture which we anticipate will grow over the next few years. |

Families who are new to the country and to this area have a lot of adapting to do. They face even more challenges than the average family. Casa ALBA is available to help connect them with existing resources and provide support. This ranges from resourcing for Spanish-speaking parents of children with special needs through youth sports training.

Many of the residents of this community who come to Casa ALBA are relatively new to the community. Many seek assistance with immigration concerns, laws and regulations that may differ from those of the countries from which they came. Often medical procedures and resources are also unfamiliar. Because they want to be responsible, contributing members of the community, they want to better understand our systems and life style. We provide for immigration attorney consultations, consultations by local attorneys, and guidance with medical concerns such as insurance, hospital bills, and preventive care.

We are blessed by the presence of attorneys that volunteer their time at Casa ALBA for our corporate governance and to aid Hispanic families with legal issues ranging from document translation to immigration law.

There are many types of people who look for opportunities to get to know others in the community. The elderly who have limited access to transportation and may know very few others their age; individuals who would like to learn a language (English or Spanish) and get to know people of another culture; persons struggling with depression who are helped by socializing with others while learning a new skill. Casa ALBA offers a safe environment for people to come together. We also welcome opportunities to share the various cultures of our Spanish-speaking members with the larger community.

Casa ALBA Melanie helps our clients as they deal with the challenges of assimilating into a new culture, as they learn a new language, We help translate documents from English to Spanish and notarize legal documents. We provide referrals to: local agencies, prospective employers, medical/dental services and financial consulting, We provide assistance with Housing Advocacy and Energy Assistance referrals.
